Artists Statement

January 2012 Madrid, Spain. Sean Durham's paintings reflect world around him. The way he sees the world and experiences it. Often people comment that he paints sad people, crazy people or strange broken people in his works. This is often the human condition reflected in an honest way and not sentimentalised through the influence of movements in Art Sean Durham

Painting offers the Human being the opportunity to study, analyse and reflect on his environment and the world around himself.

,

This has led throughout History, to an ever changing attitude as to how an Artist approaches his materials and work.

,

We live in a fast paced society, what is legitimate today is bastardized tomorrow.

,

Our age is one of the Individual. Groups and sub-societies have little influence on the Individual mind. The Individual thinks for himself, he trusts only his own thoughts and feelings, these are the tools he uses to understand and to survive. He doesn't  trust the masses. When an Individual becomes an Artist, he sets off on a journey into an analyses of his own life and thoughts.

,

Picasso expressed the idea that an Artist seeks the Truth - when he finds it, he has found Truth pertaining to his own world of experience - he must then convince the rest of the world that it is a legitimate Truth.

A tough job!

I have painted for many years and will continue to for many to come. The work that I produce is an honest attempt at expressing myself as an individual, reflecting my thoughts and feelings with line and colour. I attempt to understand more about my materials and to my subject. I make mistakes and learn from them, so that I can paint better paintings.

,

I want people to see my work and I hope it makes them think and feel, to draw them away from the Mundane, to become introspective.

,

I'll help this process of thought by making my work accessible through it's form - Realism and Figurativism.
